Keen Sight and Smell. The Moon-Touched Owlbear has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight or smell.
Lunar Wrath. When the Moon-Touched Owlbear’s hit points reach below 30 it is overcome with fury powered by the lunar magic coursing through its veins. The monster’s AC is increased to 16, and its attacks deal an extra d4 of force damage. This effect is not reversed if the Moon-Touched Owlbear is healed beyond the threshold.
Critical Mass. Even at rest the owlbear’s body has trouble containing the lunar power, but when the monster sustains its rage for too long that feat becomes impossible, ending with the Moon-Touched Owlbear releasing the energy in one fantastic explosion. If the Moon-Touched Owlbear has had it’s Lunar Wrath ability activated at the start of 3 of its turns it bursts into a bright light damaging everything in a 15ft radius. Creatures caught in the blast must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d4 force damage on a failed save and half damage on a successful save. When the light of the explosion fades the owlbear loses Lunar Wrath, Critical Mass, and Moonbeam abilities.
Multiattack. The Moon-Touched Owlbear makes two attacks: one with its beak and one with its claws.
Beak. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 10 (1d10 + 5) piercing damage.
Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 5) slashing damage.
Moonbeam (Recharge 5-6): The owlbear emits a brilliant moonbeam in a 60-foot line that is 5 feet wide. Each creature in that line must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw, taking 20 (4d10) force damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Moon-Touched Owlbears are exemplar forms of their kin long before their infusion of lunar power. Druidic clans seek out the strongest and wisest owlbears as companions to take along on both their physical and spiritual journeys. Over time these owlbears retain a build up of divine moonlight through exposure empowering their attacks and abilities.
Because they are companions to druids, Moon-Touched Owlbears come into battles with orders. This can vary from protecting areas sacred to the druids, hunting down trespassers, or striding into battle with a warrior on its back. As the owlbear spends time in battle its bodies control of the lunar energies loosens, blue-white light pours from with eyes and mouth and illuminates its claws. This light grows in intensity quickly, giving those around it a bit of visual warning before the energy overcomes the owlbear’s earthly form and bursts out.
Nature DC 8 - As the creature begins to glow it is clear it is full of some kind of foreign energy.
Nature DC 10 - As the glow becomes brighter its apparent the energy is making the owlbear more dangerous.
Nature DC 14 - The owlbear is losing control of the energy inside of it, it may not be able to contain it much longer.
Moon-Touched Owlbears rarely have treasure themselves, though they may have some small trinkets in their gullet from unfortunate souls who have crossed paths with the owlbear in the past. The monster’s pelt could be successfully removed without damage by making a survival check DC 12. A craftsman could turn the pelt into a magical cloak.
